Adrian Munteanu received the MSc. degree in electronics from Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania, in 1994, the MSc. degree in biomedical engineering from University of Patras, Greece, in 1996, and the Doctorate degree in applied sciences (awarded with highest honors and congratulations from the jury) from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium, in 2003.
In the period 2004-2010 he was post-doctoral fellow with the Fund for Scientific Research – Flanders (FWO), Belgium, and since 2007, he is professor at VUB. His research interests include multiview video processing, scalable image and video coding, distributed video coding, scalable coding of 3D graphics, 3D video coding, error-resilient coding, multiresolution image and video analysis, video segmentation and indexing, multimedia transmission over networks and statistical modeling.
Adrian Munteanu is the author of more than 300 journal and conference publications, book chapters, and contributions to standards and holds several patents in image and video coding. He is the recipient of the 2004 BARCO-FWO prize for his PhD work, the co-recipient of the Most Cited Paper Award from Elsevier for 2007, and of several other scientific prizes and awards at international conferences. Adrian Munteanu is committee member in many international conferences in the areas of image processing and communications and served as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Multimedia.
