Setup and evaluation of a Wireless Sensor and Actuator Network

Subject

Co-promotor: An Braeken

Our lab is equipped with LED panels controlled by wireless devices. This we call a Wireless Actuator Network. The network can be expanded to also include different types of sensors. And interesting study related to this is to study the performance of the actuators and sensors in the network. Since actuators are mains powered and sensors often battery powered, they can be allowed to behave differently in network. The sensors should use low power approaches to networking to extend the battery life, while the actuators can use as much power as needed.

You would first extend our lab with sensors, placing them and implementing the data collection.
Afterwards you will compare the performance of the components in the network in different configurations, mainly with the sensors and actuators in separate networks, or with both in a single network.

Kind of work

Select and implement suitable sensors
Implement underlying network architecture
Evaluate network performance
