Abstract: This paper introduces the inverse problem setting
for landmine detection using infrared thermography. The problem is stated as a least-squares
minimization problem. It is solved using Quasi-Newton trust region method with discrete adjoint
method for calculating the objective function's gradient. In order to reduce the ill-posedness of
the inverse problem, we make use of two simplifications steps. The performance of the algorithms
are tested with some numerical examples.
