Abstract: This report introduces a three-dimensional thermal model for buried landmine detection. Efficient finite difference
methods are applied to solve the mathematical model. The estimation of the soil thermal and meteorological parameters,
which play important roles in the thermal model, from simple measurements in the minefield are introduced.
The validity of the thermal model with estimated soil parameters is verified by comparing the simulation with a data
set acquired in an outdoor minefield.
