Abstract: This paper introduces a new representation method for electronic circuits in which we describe the circuits also from the perspective of circuit-emotions and circuit-health. Our Method starts from the study of simple electronic circuits by means of simulation. In classic simulators the values of voltages and currents are calculated. As an added information we calculate a health parameter and an emotion parameter based on the obtained simulation results and circuit configuration. We further translate the two calculated parameters into an emoticon reflecting the health and emotional state of a component. In a first experimentation phase we used emoticons that are displayed next to electronic components to reflect the virtual health and emotional state of that circuit component. The students learned to describe the circuits behavior from a holistic point of view and determine which elements or circuit parameters should be changed to get the circuit in an improved and happier shape. This paper describes the developed Hedonic model and the used teaching method. The paper ends by giving some conclusions on the first results we obtained after using this method during oral classes in electronic design for second bachelor engineering students. External Link.
