The combination of electronics with photonics is a very interesting interdisciplinary domain where a lot of interesting results can still be harvested for use in all kind of novel applications. The research activities cover: optical detectors/receivers in standard CMOS chips and III-V materials, covering the spectral domain from the visible down to millimeter waves; optical modulators and Q-switching in the medium-infrared range and the study of the interaction of the covered electromagnetic wave spectrum with matter to develop novel generation of sensors and micro-processing technologies.
